The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru sports a heavy reduction on the nose, which under blind conditions made it difficult to read. The palate is likewise difficult to work out. I must admit to being flummoxed by this wine, trying to peer underneath the reduction to assess the fruit quality. Dismissive at first, given my note out of barrel, I just think this was the wrong time to taste this and my score is based solely on its potential after three or four years. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.
